The Future of Business Schools in India and China

Where will successful future business leaders be educated? At top U.S. or European business schools or at leading institutions in India or China? According to BusinessWeek Asian B-schools “have a long way to go to match Western business schools but they are fast making giant strides”.

BusinessWeek argues that Indian and Chinese business schools have several advantages.

  • Student Quality - Student quality at the top Indian and Chinese schools is excellent and getting better. Numbers indicate it is actually harder to get into a top business school in India or China than a similar top school in the U.S. or Europe.
  • Domestic Salaries – Domestic salaries received by business school graduates in in China and India is rising and becoming competitive with salaries received by graduates in the West.
  • Curriculum No Longer Competitive Advantage – It is almost impossible for a business school to maintain its competitive advantage based on its curriculum. Because of the internet, schools have access to the curriculum at other institutions and can update their own classes accordingly.
  • Context Matters -  Local MBA programs are able to provide greater exposure to market realities in Asia as compared to U.S. or European business schools.
