GMAT is Graduate Management Admissions Test. It is a computer-adaptive standardized test in mathematics and the English language for measuring aptitude to succeed academically in graduate business studies.
Business schools use the test as a criterion for admission into graduate business administration programs (e.g. MBA, Master of Accountancy, etc.) principally in the United States, but also in other English-speaking countries (Singapore included).
It will be best for students to check with the relevant universities whether or not a GMAT test score is required as part of the admission procedure.
The GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test, as its name suggests, is for admission to management or business school while the GRE or Graduate Record Exam is for graduate school. In other means, GRE is for general graduate school other than business school.

If you are applying to top 50 business schools, you need to have a score of at least 600 or above. For top 10 MBA programs, an average score of 700 is required.
The maximum score that can be achieved on the exam is 800. The Analytical Writing part of the test is graded on a scale of 0 (the minimum) to 6 (the maximum).

GMAT Test is a Computer Adaptive Test. Questions in the Quantitative and Verbal sections are dynamically selected as you take the test; the multiple-choice questions will adjust to your ability level, and your test will be unique.
For each multiple-choice section of the GMAT exam, there is a large pool of potential questions ranging from a low to high level of difficulty. Each section of the test starts with a question of moderate difficulty. If you answer the first question correctly, the computer will usually give you a harder question. If you answer the first question incorrectly, your next question will be easier. This process will continue until you complete the section, at which point the computer will have an accurate assessment of your ability level in that subject area.
In a computer-adaptive test, only one question at a time is presented. Because the computer scores each question before selecting the next one, you may not skip, return to, or change your responses to previous questions.
There are 3 sections.
The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) is the first section of the test. This is followed by the Quantitative section, and the test concludes with the Verbal Ability section.
Analytical Writing Assessment
The GMAT exam begins with the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA). The AWA consists of two separate writing tasks—Analysis of an Issue and Analysis of an Argument. You are allowed 30 minutes to complete each one.
Quantitative Section
Following an optional break, you then begin with the Quantitative Section of the GMAT exam. This section contains 37 multiple-choice questions of two question types—Data Sufficiency and Problem Solving. You are allowed a maximum of 75 minutes to complete the entire section.
Verbal Section
After completion of the Quantitative Section (following an optional break), you begin the Verbal Section of the GMAT exam. This section contains 41 multiple choice questions of three question types—Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, and Sentence Correction. You are allowed a maximum of 75 minutes to complete the entire section.
You have three and a half hours in which to take the GMAT exam, but plan for a total time of approximately four hours.
The test fee is US$250 worldwide.
There is a US$50 fee to reschedule the date, time, or location of a GMAT exam appointment if you reschedule your appointment at least seven full calendar days before the date and time of your original appointment. If you reschedule within seven calendar days of the date and time of your original appointment, you will be charged the full registration amount. The rescheduling fee is subject to change without notice.
Pacing is critical, as there is a severe penalty for not completing. Both the time and number of questions that remain in the section are displayed on the screen during the exam. There are 37 Quantitative questions and 41 Verbal questions. If a question is too time-consuming or if you don’t know the answer, make an educated guess by first eliminating the answers you know to be wrong.
On the day you take the GMAT®, before you begin the exam, you may select up to five (5) GMAT Programs to receive your Official Score Report.
These recipients will receive the Official Score Report within 20 calendar days of your test. This service is covered by your registration fee. Once you have made your selections, you will not be able to change or delete them. The cost to send an Additional Score Report is US$28.
The only opportunity that you will have to cancel your scores is at the test center. Immediately after you complete the test—but before you view your scores—you will have the option to cancel your scores. You cannot cancel your scores after they are displayed or reported to you.
