Course Description

When you use English in a conversational, business or academic setting, you will have to listen to what the speaker is saying and respond effectively. Being able to fully comprehend spoken English and give your opinion can affect your success in these settings. Therefore, this course will improve your communication skills with your friends, colleagues or professors.

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to give you extensive practice with conversational dialogs, after which you will:

• Determine who the speakers are, what the speakers are doing and where the speakers are by using the contextual clues
• Understand and issue comparative statements
• Discern negative responses from positive ones and react accordingly
• Understand expressions of surprise, agreement, disagreement, suggestions, invitations, offers, requests, contradiction etc. and suitable responses
• Improve fluency by using idioms
• Use clearer diction
• Understand and use conditional statements
• Draw inferences by relying on word choice and tone
